SKIBA - CALLIN IT QUIT

Ohio artist SKIBA returns from a year long hiatus with the underdog story titled “CALLIN IT QUITS”.  SKIBA has mastered a delivery that turns any songs he creates into the perfect hype song, and “CALLIN IT QUITS” is no exception.

Lack of fear will never be as celebrated as much as bravery in the face of fear. Similarly, the world always celebrates the underdog hero’s journey. The world finds connection in growth. SKIBA’s newest song “CALLIN IT QUITS” rides the line between the champion looking back in the rearview mirror and the underdog hustling through the mud.

The instrumental starts with trumpets before the beat drops. These trumpets paired with the uptempo drum pattern give the energy of a championship game. As the beat drops, a secondary melody fades in and out smoothly. With the instrumental’s final ingredient added, the canvas becomes ready for SKIBA to paint with his lyrics.

Lyrically SKIBA raps about his strength of will and endurance through difficult times in an effort to march forward for more. Winning only stops becoming a possibility when you stop opening doors, and SKIBA encapsulates this mentality perfectly with “CALLIN IT QUITS”. Addressing financial woes, bad advice from past friends, self doubt and more.

SKIBA wears multiple creative hats as a multi-talented artists. As both producer and rapper his sense of timing and flow is immaculate comparable to your favorite artists. On a delivery level SKIBA excels even more, in fact his vocal delivery at times can very well be the highlight of the entire song.

Although there was two years between his last release “DUMB” and the release of “CALLIN IT QUITS”, it’s clear SKIBA has had zero creative atrophy. If anything, there is an additional layer of confidence throughout SKIBA’s newest song. With around 100 monthly listeners, at the time of this article, SKIBA’s audience is still in its early stages but shows no signs of slowing down.
