Johnny B - Lookin Back

Ohio artist Johhny B returns with an introspective rap song titled “Lookin Back”.  The two minute plus track follows his 2020 album “Date With Destiny”, as well as shares similar thematic elements.

In the first verse Johnny B says: “You can never lose if you choose to believe that every little single problem is a blessing. And if you don’t believe that. You can check back to the day of 2/27”

The date 2/27 referring to the Chardon 2012 high school shooting. Johnny B being a student of the same school. To live when others don’t, who deserve to live too, stays with you. Sometimes after trauma or losing loved ones you’re numb. Johnny B moves past the empty of nothing because pain can be healed scabbed and reshaped onward. Johnny B focuses forward accepting each day as blessing for a chance at a better tomorrow.

The instrumental is built around a sample that sounds fit for early career Drake. A soulful beat ready for confessions from the heart. The drumbeat consists of soft moments with double time breaks in between.

Johhny B uses his cover art in the same vein of song content, reminiscing on the past. The cover shows a photo of tickets from multiple past shows Johhny B performed at. Each show having a high profile headliner such as one having Raekwon and Ghostface from Wu-Tang clan.

Lyrically “Lookin Back” is about finding the light in the darkness. Trying to be grateful for what you have by constant growth forward forever progressing. The song’s main sentiment is learning to let go of the past to build towards the future.

“Im not focused on where I was. I’m just focused where I’m at”
