“Azul” sounds like the highs and lows of life unraveled and twisted into a three minute instrumental. The intro guitar melody washes over you like the breeze on a humid day. “Azul”’s beginning feels like an early morning walk. Footstep after footstep walking along through shade on a sunny day with each step gaining more confidence.
About forty seconds in sounds play almost as if to be a metronome mirroring an anxious heartbeat. Keystrokes play an opposing melody in response as if to deny the coming increase in pace. Spontaneous piano keys play radiating jazz and blue influences with an upbeat tempo.
The keystrokes continue as if the piano itself had lungs and was singing to the last breath. Suddenly a wavey guitar melody plays redirecting the energy of the song into a eerie dreamlike state. As the music plays it provides a feeling similar to the sight of heat coming off asphalt roads.
Finally at the tail end of the song the feeling loops back into the beginning. Sonically “Azul” becomes more hopeful during the outro. Instruments play as if they are alive in the moment with Pedro Santos Oliveira as he creates the music. A true artistic soul who breathes life into his songs only to let them go into the wind that is the internet.
