aaron’s book club - Dig Down

Parody has always rides a line between a comedic reimagining and serious satire. When it’s relatable, parody is at its best; feeling like an original interpretation, almost an echo of a new song. The most beloved parodies feel like a cover blended with a new perspective. Lyrics often retain the same rhyme schemes while carrying the same melody of the original song.

Few parody artists are able to burst the bubble into a realm where they are taken serious as an artist in their own right. “Weird Al” Yankovic may be the most famous parody artist, but the artist aaron’s book club shows his strong potential with his song “Dig Down”.  Even outside of parody music, aaron’s book club shows his worth as an original artist with his production value and creativity in the song writing.

The inspiration of “Dig Down” being the viral song by SZA titled “Kill Bill” and the popular survival sandbox game Minecraft.  Using terminology and references to Minecraft, “Dig Down” continues with the theme of self sabotage. In Minecraft diamonds are a crafting tool that is often one of the biggest desires in the game. Aaron’s book club describes a technique to search for diamonds by digging straight down; and while this method is fast; it can risk the player falling to their death.

Similarly SZA sings about her tendency for self sabotage in “Kill Bill” with lyrics such as: “I might kill my ex” and “Rather be in jail than alone”. In an attempt to numb the loneliness SZA would rather know the cause of her unhappiness was not receiving their happily ever after either. Both “Kill Bill” and “Dig Down” describe a foreword focused mindset. Regardless of whatever happens next, good or bad, both SZA and aaron’s book club will do what they feel is necessary in the moment for their inner fulfillment.

Vocally aaron’s book club holds his own in his reinterpretation of SZA hit song with his “Dig Down”. Not everyone plays video games like Minecraft, but everyone can relate to feeling regret or making a mistake in attempt of wanting more. Aaron’s book club captures this sentiment with his catchy, earworm of a song titled “Dig Down”.

Currently with just under 30,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, aaron’s book club song “Dig Down” is his biggest song since his 2021 song “Save Me!” Collectively “Dig Down” and “Save Me!” have 400,000 plus streams on Spotify alone. Despite these two song doing well, aaron’s book club is an artist whose biggest moment hasn’t even happened yet, so follow them for more.
