Seago - Cheapshot
Seago releases his biggest song yet, a powerful pop ballad titled: “Cheapshot”. Delivering his signature sound over a catchy upbeat piano, Seago’s unique voice and memorable lyrics shine as the highlight.
With “Cheapshot” Seago received the coveted editorial placements on a handful of Spotify playlists. Some of the editorial playlists were ‘Fresh Finds Indie’, ‘Pollen’, ‘Lorem’ and ‘Outliers’, collectively having two million plus followers as potential listeners for Seago.
These playlist placements and Seago’s cultivated fanbase have led to “Cheapshot” having close to 150,000 streams within two weeks (a 300+ percent positive change in stream amount compared to his previous biggest release “could’ve been”).
Thematically the lyrics of “Cheapshot” dismisses haters as only being successful for hitting Seago in his blind spot. Furthermore Seago touches on the anxiety and paranoia associated with emotional betrayal with lyrics such as:
“Need a spare set of eyes just to watch my back. You speak behind it and my face gets slapped.”
Seago expresses the impact even talking behind his back has, feeling equivalent to a slap in the face. Simultaneously Seago dismisses his haters further saying he was only affected because of being a low point prior to the betrayal. This backhanded compliment approach in his lyrics was a common literary technique in his previously released song “Standards” as well.
“Cheapshot” quick success is a testament to the growing foundation of fans and a keen sense of brand awareness, by Seago and his team. As only his seventh major platform release, “Cheapshot” is yet another example of the exponential potential of the rising artist Seago.
